Firstly, a huge Congratulations to you if you’re recently engaged!
I expect you can’t wait to share the news with all of your family and friends and get started on your Wedding Planning. So, in this blog, I’m sharing with you some of my Top Tips to get your Wedding Planning Journey off to a fantastic start!
But the first step, before we even get to that part, is to soak in the moment. Enjoy the feeling of being engaged, revel in the excitement and take your time to really make the most of it!
And after that… it’s time to get to work!
So, here are my Top Tips!
Before you begin your Wedding Planning journey, it’s a good idea to sit down with your partner and talk. Discuss your dreams, your ideas and your expectations. Decide together, what’s important to you both and what’s not.
Wedding Planning can be a stressful experience (although it absolutely doesn’t have to be!), but it’s a whole lot easier when you get the ground work sorted early on. And most importantly, remember to talk to each other!!!
Planning your Wedding should be a fun and exciting experience, a time that should help you to grow as a couple and lay the foundations for a beautiful future. So, make sure that the journey and the destination reflect your individuality. There are so many opportunities to make wonderful memories on the lead up to your Wedding- make sure you do it together, talk about your ideas and decide as a couple what works for you.
It’s great to take inspiration from photos and experiences to give you an idea of what you want, but add a bit of character and make it your own. It’s your day, so make sure it reflects your unique personality and have some fun!
If tradition isn’t your thing, then create your own! Incorporate as much of yourselves into your Wedding as you can- at the end of the day it’s all about you, so enjoy yourselves and make the most of it!
There will always be a consideration of what you should do and what your family wants, but at the end of the day, it’s your Wedding and you should do what feels right for the two of you. The same applies to vendors and suppliers- you should feel comfortable with them all and know that they are the right fit for you- if you don’t, then keep looking. You will find the right one.
Think about what is most important to you- try not to compromise on the things that mean the most to you, and don’t worry about the things that aren’t.
Be yourself. It’s your wedding day and it’s all about having the best day of your life. Stick to a handful of priorities to ensure you focus on what’s important to you both during your Wedding Planning journey… which will also help you to stick to your budget.
Setting your budget at the beginning of your Wedding Journey will allow you to understand how many guests you can invite and what sort of venue you need (amongst everything else!). It will help you to accommodate the costs as you go along and prevent any disappointment. Once you’ve got the basics set, you can get on with the fun stuff and really make your Wedding something to remember… and know that you can afford to do it.
Planning a Wedding is a big job! It takes time and patience to find the right vendors, that fit your Wedding vision and can work to your budget. So, give yourselves plenty of time to make the journey, to explore the options and create the perfect Wedding Day. Don’t leave it all to the last minute- tick off things as early on as you can, to help you feel more relaxed and organised closer to the day.
If your suppliers understand what you want and they can achieve your vision, then you’re onto a winner! Work with them to develop your ideas, tweak the fine details and create something truly unique and exceptional. You should feel comfortable with them all and know that they're right for you. Searching for the right Wedding Professionals to fulfil your dream may seem like a daunting task, but it's definately one worth taking your time over. And how do you check that you get along?... meet with them, grab a coffee and have a chat- just make sure that you click!
Consider your budget when choosing your suppliers- understand where you can afford to spend a little bit more for the things you have prioritised and spend wisely. There will always be an option that fits you and can work to your budget, but know where you’re willing to spend more, where you need to spend less and have realistic expectations of the service you will receive.
Always check your contracts with your suppliers carefully & make sure everything that needs to be is included, is- it protects both you and the suppliers. And finally, give your vendors a little bit of love during the planning process- it’ll be worth it when they go above and beyond for you on your Wedding Day.
Remember your Wedding Party are there to support the two of you on your big day, so make sure that you choose people who are important to you and who will help during the Wedding Planning process. If you will be helping your Bridesmaid get into her dress on the morning of your Wedding, you may want to consider a different person!
It’s easy to feel stressed when you’re planning a Wedding- there’s a lot to think about and so much more to do! So, don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it and delegate tasks to your nearest and dearest- the're guaranteed to be more than happy to help create your Wedding Day- chances are they will be honoured to have been asked to be involved. Do keep in mind to choose your help wisely and be sure to play to people’s strengths!
And if you need some professional help, Hire a Wedding Planner!
Engaging with a wedding planner as early in the planning process as possible will help your Wedding Planning run smoothly, though they can help at any stage.
