Spring really is the most wonderful time of the year! With blooming flowers and vibrant colours, warmer weather and longer days - such a contrast after the long, cold, winter months; what a better time of year to get inspired by the season and host a Spring Wedding! I’ve been exploring some of the season’s best Wedding ideas to share with you and make your New Beginning something to remember.

Spring Bouquet - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

One major consideration for Spring Weddings, are the dates: try to avoid holidays such as Easter & Mother’s Day to keep attendance high and guests happy! Send out your save the dates as soon as you can, to help your guests arrange their calendars.

Wildflower Bouquets and Seasonal Blooms

There is no better time of year to embrace seasonal bouquets for your Wedding, than in Spring. With an immense variety of flowers in an abundance of shades, you’ll be sure to find something to suit your theme, style and budget for a gorgeous Spring Wedding. By sourcing locally grown, in-season blooms you’ll be able to embrace the natural beauty that both the season and the area have to offer, at the same time as sourcing environmentally sustainable blooms and without compromising the beauty of your Wedding Day.

Not only can you really go to town with your Spring Wedding Florals and create a stunning visual floral design, but consider too the scents of the flowers that you choose, to help you create a signature scent for your Wedding Day and lasting memories for yourselves and your guests. (For more information on your Wedding appealing to your Senses, follow the link to my blog!)

Floral arches create a real wow factor- enveloping you in the scents and blooms of the season… and make for some fantastic photos too! Wreaths and floral chandeliers create an amazing focal point for your décor. But my personal favourite has to be an aisle lined with Spring-time flowers- a real show stopper for any Wedding.

Wedding Spring Boutonniere - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

And don’t forget the groomsmen in your floral design… creating a fresh, floral boutonnière, will add a naturally beautiful, Spring-time element to your celebration, and spread the joy of Spring through the whole of the Wedding Party.

Speak to your florist about the flowers that are available during Spring-time, that would suit your Wedding design and fit the date of your Wedding. With Spring covering such a range of months & weathers, the floral offerings at the time of your Wedding could vary greatly throughout the season. Some blooms that are definitely worth considering are daffodils, tulips, calla lilies, grape hyacinth, lily of the valley, peonies, roses, ranaculus & gypsophilia… but check in with your local grower and florist for a full picture of what's available and some great ideas!

Save the date illustrated flower or seeds - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

Floral inspired Wedding Stationery

Inject some Spring-inspired colour & design into your Wedding Stationery. Complement your Wedding Stationery with some seasonal floral motifs to embody the essence of Spring, leaving your guests in no question as to the season and theme of your Wedding; from the moment they receive your “Save the Date”!

Whether you choose to create a floral emblem, incorporate floral illustrations in your design, or a floral inspired envelope liner, let your stationery do the talking, and embody your Wedding Theme. Consider paper containing pressed flowers or seeds- your guests can grow their own living memory of your day (you could even use flowers & seeds matching your bouquet & colour scheme, to really help the memory live on!).

Incorporate your floral design into all aspects of your décor and stationery- with everything from your invitation suite, to your on-the-day stationery, even your cake design, to create a cohesive Spring-Wedding aesthetic that runs through your whole day. Ask your stationer to develop a bespoke design for you and your Wedding Day.

Pastel Palettes

Colour is a big consideration for a Spring Wedding- you could go with a subtle pastel palette to incorporate a tasteful nod to the season or combine with bold, bright colours. Create a colour palette with multiple, complimentary colours, to form depth and texture and whether you choose understated pastels, a pop of colour or an all-out cheeky, happy, sunny scheme, the colour palette that you choose will help to set the tone of your Wedding!

There are some great pastel colour combinations that are a little outside the box, if you want to keep the tones subtle but a little different. Here’s my top picks:

  • Peach and lemon- adding a touch of fresh, lemon yellow will stop your peach looking too vintage and give an elegant and contemporary vibe.
  • Green and grey- pale shades will give any other brighter colours a real pop.
  • Lilac and white- though slightly more traditional, think about using them in other elements of your décor, such as a lavender coloured cake, a chandelier entwined with wisteria blooms and textured, velvet table runners.
  • Teal a blush- a real favourite of mine, you can combine with darker, richer tones to compliment vintage aesthetics.
  • Icy blue and silver- could be considered a more wintery tone, but this cool, pastel shade is a great transition from winter to early Spring and can give a sleek, modern scheme that you could accent with a splash of bright pink or navy.

Whether you choose to incorporate your colour palette into flowers, linens, outfits, stationery or décor, reflect the season in your colour scheme to bring an air of Spring-time to your Wedding Day.

Egg Place names - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

Spring Décor

Flowers are not the only spring-time décor to incorporate into your Wedding Day. Here are some fun ideas and concepts to add a playful, spring twist to your day!

Consider incorporating eggs- naturally coloured or dyed to your wedding colour scheme, for an added touch of spring life. Consider writing names on them and using them instead of place cards. If you’re looking to tap-into the Easter theme, an egg cup with a chocolate egg could also make a great Wedding favour!

Attach escort cards to seasonal blooms and create a natural flower wall in the process.

Decorate your venue with garden furniture, to create a Spring-time, garden party ambience.

Vintage table scape for a spring wedding - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

Use floral designs in everything from your crockery and glassware, to napkins and table cloths. Vintage, floral, crockery could make fabulous charger plates for your Wedding Breakfast.

A cloud of giant, paper pom poms could create a colourful ceiling scape for a fun reception.

Stamps of Spring botanicals could look stunning where real florals can’t be used, and can be incorporated into lots of aspects, including your invitation suite, on-the-day stationery, napkins etc.

Vintage and antique items and décor can be used as decorations and work well with a whimsical Spring décor- especially with a Spring-floral addition.

Use potted bulbs of daffodils, narcissus, tulips & snowdrops as Spring inspired table centres- they can double-up as favours at the end of the night. If you’re looking to mix it up, you could name each of your tables after a different Spring flower, using them as table decor as well as table names! You could equally do something similar with herbs!

Vintage-style bunting is a lovely addition to a Spring marquee or tipi Wedding.

Even with the lighter evenings, you’ll still have plenty of opportunity to use lights in your décor, so don’t forget the fairy lights, wrapping them around trees or use festoon lights to create a courtyard for your Wedding reception. And always think about using candles in your decor to create a romantic, Spring-time air!

Add a touch of Spring to your Outfit

Have you thought about incorporating floral designs into your Wedding Day outfits?

It’s a beautiful way to bring a Spring-time twist to your special day. Whether it’s a floral inspired Wedding dress with delicate lace flowers tumbling down the skirt; beautiful floral embroidery edging a delicate, cathedral-length veil; a Spring-floral design to a waistcoat; floral-patterned ties and matching handkerchiefs or simply a splash of Spring colour; incorporating a floral design into your Wedding outfit can inject a beautiful Spring-time twist to your special day.

… And if you don’t fancy a floral dress… why not try some floral shoes instead!

There are SO many beautiful options out there, whatever your style… the difficult part will be choosing!

Think too, about the style of your outfits to reflect the season- a floral sundress or knee-length style, is always reminiscent of warm, Spring days in the sun! With some added floral accessories, you can have the whole bridal party living a Spring dream- think flower crowns and pretty petal baskets for the flower-girls! For the gents, a lighter-weight suit in a paler colour, will immediately lift the mood for some Spring-time fun!

Do still bear in mind the unpredictability of the British Spring-time weather- consider an alternative outfit for the evening, to let you strut your stuff on the dance floor in comfort and style. Think too about a cover-up in case the weather turns colder- a styled denim jacket could be a great option for an outdoor, festival Wedding. And just in case, keep a spare pair of shoes on hand… you know, just in case!

Spring Floral Hair Accessories - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

Floral Accessories

Hair accessories are a great way to add a little of the season into your outfit without being over the top! There are several ways you can achieve this: adding flowers or a vine to your braid, a flower crown or a beautiful flower tiara. For a more understated look, you could consider simple clips or pins with a subtle floral design.

Go outdoors!

After months inside after a cold, dark Winter, it’s a joy to spend time outside in the sun, as soon as Spring-time arrives. So, take advantage of the beautiful warm weather & lush greenery and consider having your ceremony or elements of your reception outside. Give yourselves and your guests the opportunity to be amongst nature, enjoying the bees buzzing amongst the flowers, the birds singing in the trees, and not to mention the longer, sun-filled days.

With a beautiful garden as your backdrop, you’ll have little need for extra decoration. Just keep an eye peeled on the weather forecast and be prepared with a back-up plan should the April showers arrive!

Make the most of your outside space with entertainment for guests, such as garden games or fairground rides, or simply enjoy your drinks reception al fresco! If you’re planning your Spring Wedding close to Easter, what better time to incorporate some cute fluffy animals into your celebration, whilst doubling as your reception entertainment, in the form of a petting zoo!... a fantastic option to keep any young guests amused at your Wedding.

If you love the idea of being outside, but you’d prefer a safer alternative (weather-wise), think about an orangery, conservatory or glasshouse venue, which will allow you to bring the beautiful outside indoors and create a bright & airy atmosphere. Use trees, natural foliage and of course seasonal flowers to give the essence of the outdoors, with the safety of a roof over your head!

Whatever venue you choose, be sure that it reflects the seasonal beauty of Spring and works with the theme & style that you want to portray.

Signature Cocktails & Seasonal Menus

Bring some Spring flavours to your food and drinks menus too. Signature cocktails for your Wedding Reception, incorporating garnishes that are the epitome of Spring- think edible flowers, or seasonal fruit- are the perfect way to inject a little bit of Spring-time into your guest’s refreshments. You could even include flowers & fruit in ice-cubes or as a fresh garnish, for a little something different!

Combine your drinks menu with seasonal produce in your Wedding breakfast, and a burst of fresh floral flavours in your Wedding cake- perhaps even decorate it with edible, Spring florals for a fabulously Spring-inspired centre-piece. Keep your menu fresh and light- with endless food and drinks options for a Spring-time vibe, you can easily plan your Spring Wedding-menu.

Some of my personal favourites are: scones, cheesecake, cocktails, fresh fruits (especially early strawberries!), salads; lamb, crab, prawns and lobster; as well as vegetables, such as asparagus, wild garlic, Spring greens, spinach, & fruits such as rhubarb and gooseberries- are all in season in Spring-time. Consider fresh floral flavours for your Wedding cake, such as lemon and elderflower, lavender and honey, rose and pistachio or orange blossom.

Spring-time Favours

Favours are always a lovely way to give your guests a lasting memory of your Wedding- but how about a gift that keeps on giving? Sharing seed packets, bulb sets or small potted plants as Wedding favours, is a relatively inexpensive gift to bestow on your guests and is a great way to tie the season into your Wedding Day.

Alternatively, with the weather being a little unpredictable in Spring time, consider pretty, floral fans as a practical Wedding favour for those balmy Spring days, or umbrellas matching your colour scheme, to shelter from rain or sun! They can also be used to choreograph some great Wedding photos!

If you’re planning an all-out Easter theme, a Spring-time Easter-egg hunt, would not only be great entertainment for the kids… but I’m certain it will keep the adults amused too!... and could also double as your Wedding favours!

Longer days & Golden Hour

With the longer days, be sure to make the most of the lighter evenings, so take your party outside to enjoy the magical sunsets and twilight hours. And with the added advantage of the sun setting a little earlier than Summertime, you can capture those golden-hour shots and still make the most of a starlit night, giving you the opportunity to get the party started!

Plan for the weather with some wellies - Camellio Wedding Planning and Events - Essex Wedding Planner

Plan for the Weather

I know I’ve already mentioned it, but with the unpredictability of the British weather, it’s definitely worth mentioning again…

Spring-time can quickly sway from warm, sunny days, to damp days with dipping temperatures- so cover all eventualities; considering heaters for cooler days and shelter for wet weather cover, especially if you’re planning outdoor elements to your day. Keep your options open and always have an in-door alternative as back-up.
