Why Choose an Autumn Wedding
Autumn Weddings… where to start. It’s perhaps my favourite time of year for Weddings (though I am a little biased, since I married in Autumn!), but with the variety of rich, natural colours, paired with warm days and clear blue skies, is there a more beautiful season to get married in?! Even the light does something magical in Autumn- the way the light falls through the trees creating an enchanting golden-glow- you won’t see that at any other time of the year.
Not only are you able to experience the perfect weather for your Wedding Day, you’ll often find the season great value for money, with suppliers being a little less busy and no holidays to contend with!
With masses of inspiration for themes and colour schemes in Autumn, combined with the abundance of perfect venues for the season that you can find across Essex, you’ll be booking your Autumn Wedding in no time! Here, I've shared some of the great advantages to marrying in this beautiful season- and for a little extra help planning your perfect Autumn Wedding, get in contact.
Autumn Colours Beautiful rich tones
With a variety of vibrant colours in Autumn, with hues ranging from bright green, to yellow, orange, red, purple and brown, you can create the most beautiful backdrop for an Autumn Wedding by complimenting your colour scheme to the tones of the season. Incorporate seasonal colours into all aspects of your Wedding from flowers to dresses, stationery to décor.
Consider bridesmaids dresses in a jewel-toned plum, invitations in deep burgundy with gold foil lettering, a Wedding cake in bold berry shades or a Wedding dress with gold and champagne tones, using beautiful, rich, Autumnal colours, will create a stunning seasonal affair.
Autumn Weather & Magical Light
I don’t know about you, but I find that the weather in Autumn can be fantastic… I remember the day I got married we had clear blue skies and sunshine, and that was the middle of October!
Autumn can produce some of the most fantastic days weatherwise, no need to worry about getting sweaty like you do in Summer and still warm enough to be outside unlike Winter! No-one expects perfect weather in Autumn, so when you do get a golden day… all the better! Being Britain however, the weather is still renowned for being unpredictable, so be prepared! Have an indoor back-up for any outdoor activities, umbrellas and blankets on hand, should it get wet or chilly, to keep your guests dry and warm.
Think about pairing your outfit with a few accessories to keep the weather at bay- perhaps a chic lace or faux fur bolero, ¾ sleeves on your dress, a cape or jacket to keep you warm. Beautiful hair pieces can echo the surrounding nature… and just in case, you could always have some back-up wellies on hand for some fun photos, if the heavens do decide to open!
And the light… did I mention the light?! The light in Autumn is magic- it’s a photographer’s dream! The golden hour hits at the perfect time of day, so your photos don’t interfere with any of your other Wedding Day activities and adds soft, natural lighting tones to your photos, giving you a warm, golden aura. For the perfect light, it’s recommended to take photos 45 minutes before and 45 minutes after sunset.
To top that, the early evenings of Autumn create a magic that you just don’t get in the Summer months. It’s still warm enough to be outside (with the help of some blankets!), but dark enough to have some fun with sparklers, bonfires and fireworks! It gives you the opportunity to create some extra romantic touches- just imagine toasting marshmallows while a live guitarist serenades you and your guests, under a starlit sky!
Autumn flowers & Décor
Autumn flowers… now if you’re one to think that Autumn is all about dead leaves and twigs, you are most definitely wrong! The are an abundance of seasonal blooms and foliage that are still going strong into the Autumn months, including dahlias, verbena, rudbekia, acer, alstromeria, chrysanthemum, hydrangea, anemone and roses, to name just a few! Find a local florist that can source your flowers from here in Essex and knows exactly what’s best at this time of year (and if you need some help, just ask!
Look for a colour palette to reflect the season with magnificent oranges, reds and yellows, muted peaches and browns, and perhaps include some seasonal extras in your installations, such as pine cones, conkers and Autumn leaves to add a little more of the season to your designs. Dried flowers and even feathers (such as pheasant, peacock or guinea fowl), are a great alternative, or even addition to fresh flower installations for Autumn months and are a great way to add a little more texture to your designs. This arrangement by Essex-florist @The Petal Girl is the perfect example of a stunning Autumn arrangement, that combines dried, fresh and foraged elements and would make the most perfect table centre at an Autumn Wedding.
Natural centre pieces also work well at this time of year- think pumpkins, apples and berries combined with a velvet runner and jewel toned glassware, complimented with flickering tapered candles- they would create the most stunning, seasonal centrepieces. You could even write on your fruit and they can double as table numbers and place settings!
If you long for an outdoor, Autumn Wedding, but its just a little too risky for you, then incorporate some Autumn décor to your Wedding design by bringing the outdoors in- use twigs, branches, and leaves inside your venue and blend them with your interior design, to create an Autumn haven indoors. Adding fairy lights, Edison bulbs and candles will add to the golden tones of your colour scheme and create that magical atmosphere.
Autumn food
Food! So often the talking point of a Wedding. But guess what, seasonal, local produce from the Autumn months can help you to create a gastro-feast that your guests will remember for a very long time! It’s the season for hearty and wholesome food, and some flavour pairings made in heaven! Including butternut squash, pumpkin, pork and apple, pies, seasonal veg., apple and blackberry, spiced carrot- play with the flavours and create a menu that you love with the very best that the season has to offer.
And not forgetting the drinks, local cider (mulled cider for colder days!), red wine, whiskey, Autumn signature cocktails and hot chocolate can complement your food and give your guests a hearty, warming addition to your seasonal, Wedding Day menu.
Last but absolutely no least, the all-important Wedding cake! Consider adorning your Wedding Cake with seasonal fruits, berries and herbs. Play with the flavours, as well as the colours, incorporating blackberries; figs; apples and pears; cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; pumpkin and carrots into your flavours. Decorate your cake to reflect the season, your theme and your colour scheme.
With an abundance of seasonal produce grown in Essex, there should be no trouble creating the perfect Autumn menu, but for help and assistance narrowing your search for the perfect venues, caterers and bakers, give me a call- I’d be happy to help!
